THE PEACE OF FORGIVENESS

“He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

Colossians 1:13-14

So many of us dwell on our failures, mistakes, and opinions of others, what they say and think of us. The reason we dwell on such things is because we believe we have the power to change mistakes, opinions, in other words sin.

Has anyone shut the lights off on you in a room? Maybe as a prank? Immediately you probably grabbed about frantically trying to regain some type of control, even though the darkness was more than evident. When our hearts are rooted in the world, something as simple as a mistake, or opinion of another can turn the lights off in our life and send us into a panic. But Christ has redeemed us from the darkness of this world, we are no longer subject to circumstances. Our testimony isn’t about what we have overcome or the control we have over our lives. Our testimony is that we are forgiven according to his riches in grace (Ephesians 1:7).

So next time you make a mistake, or someone hurts you remember the peace of forgiveness, you no longer have to bear the weight of those burdens, Christ took them upon himself at the cross so you could experience the freedom of forgiveness. His light is infinite and no one can turn off the light of life. What we must remember is that the same light dwells within us. No one can shut off the light to our hearts, thus darkness has no claim on our hearts because they belong to Christ Jesus, who has made us lights in the world (Matthew 5:14).
